Advaita Vedanta Immersive 2027

The Advaita Vedanta Immersive 2027 (AVI 2027) is an opportunity for seekers to gain clarity and appreciation of the essential, deeper concepts of Advaita Vedanta.

AVI 2027 is an intensive residential retreat designed for committed seekers of Advaita Vedanta who wish to engage deeply with the profound study of the Brahmasutras and its commentary by Sri Adi Sankaracharya (Sankara-bhashya) through the traditional methodology of shravana, manana and nididhyasana.

The 2027 edition continues the structured journey into Brahmasutras 3 and 4. Conducted in the serene and sacred atmosphere of Adi Sankara Nilayam, the ancestral maternal birth-home of Jagadguru Sri Adi Sankaracarya, this retreat offers participants an authentic Gurukula-style learning experience rooted in the Advaita tradition.

The Upanishads, the Brahmasutra, and the Bhagavad Gita are the three basic treatises of the Vedanta (Prasthanatraya). Every Upanishad reveals that very Knowledge of the oneness of the Self, which destroys the ignorance that is the cause of all problems. Brahmasutra, authored by Sri Veda Vyasa, expounds the principles of Advaita Vedanta by stringing together the major thoughts presented in the Upanishads. The detailed commentary by Sri Shankaracharya is invaluable for one’s understanding of the treatise. A clear comprehension of the priceless concepts of Vedanta can be attained by studying the first four sutras, also known as the ‘Chatuhsutri’.

What looked like a small patch of purple grass, above five feet square, was moving across the sand in their direction. When it came near enough he perceived that it was not grass; there were no blades, but only purple roots. The roots were revolving, for each small plant in the whole patch, like the spokes of a rimless wheel.

Apparently we had reached a great height in the atmosphere, for the sky was a dead black, and the stars had ceased to twinkle. By the same illusion which lifts the horizon of the sea to the level of the spectator on a hillside, the sable cloud beneath was dished out, and the car seemed to float in the middle of an immense dark sphere, whose upper half was strewn with silver.

As I went on, still gaining velocity, the palpitation of night and day merged into one continuous greyness; the sky took on a wonderful deepness of blue, a splendid luminous color like that of early twilight; the jerking sun became a streak of fire, a brilliant arch, in space; the moon a fainter fluctuating band; and I could see nothing of the stars, save now and then a brighter circle flickering in the blue.
